The Trionda: adidas's Official 2026 World Cup Ball
The adidas 2026 World Cup ball is named Trionda, Spanish for "three waves," a nod to the first World Cup co-hosted by three nations: Canada, Mexico, and the United States. adidas unveiled it on October 2, 2025, in New York. The design is a four-panel thermal-bonded build, the fewest panels of any World Cup ball to date, with a "la ola" wave pattern across the surface and red, green, blue, and yellow accents that pull from the three host flags. Deep seams and strategic debossing tune in-flight stability and drag. The Trionda follows the Telstar 18, the Al Rihla, and a lineage that runs back to the original Telstar in 1970.
Pro vs Competition vs League vs Club: Picking the Right Trionda
The Trionda Pro ($170) is the official match ball. FIFA Quality Pro certified, built with Connected Ball Technology: a 500Hz motion sensor inside the ball that feeds real-time data to VAR and semi-automated offside systems. It must be charged before kick-off. This is the ball Messi, Mbappe, and Bellingham will take penalties with at the final on July 19. The Trionda Competition ($58.50 to $65) is the FIFA Quality match-level build without the sensor. The Trionda League ($45) sits at the club training level: thermal-bonded surface, no sensor, regulation size and weight. The Trionda Club ($25) is the recreational tier for backyard kick-arounds and school PE. And the Trionda Mini ($15) is for collectors and kids who want the design on the shelf. Same wave pattern across every tier; the build quality and the price point scale with where you actually use the ball.
Connected Ball Technology: What's Inside the Pro
The 500Hz sensor inside the Trionda Pro is the upgrade from the Al Rihla's connected-ball tech at Qatar 2022. It logs every touch, every spin, every kick at five-hundred frames per second and feeds the data to the officiating systems in the stadium. Referees use it for tighter offside calls and faster handball reviews. The ball needs charging before each match and holds a charge for about six hours of play. It's a small fourteen-gram chip suspended inside the ball, balanced so it doesn't affect the strike feel. The Pro is FIFA Quality Pro certified, which is the highest tier of FIFA's ball-quality standards, covering circumference, sphericity, water absorption, rebound, and pressure retention.
Team-Branded Trionda Club Balls
adidas releases Trionda Club balls in federation colors for the qualified national teams. The Mexico Home Trionda carries the verde-y-blanco kit palette and the FMF crest treatment. The Argentina, England, USA, France, Germany, and Spain versions all carry their own federation accents on the same wave-panel base. These are recreational-tier balls (size 5, machine-stitched, $25 to $45 range) made for the supporter who wants the ball that matches their kit on the back garden or the school pitch. The full Trionda lineup also includes Training and Sala (futsal) variants for indoor play. Pair the ball with 2026 national team accessories for matchday at home.
